about

Paul DeFiglia’s debut solo release, the aptly named In Daylight, is at once a C.V. for DeFiglia's impressive talents and a calling card for the magic of his Nashville studio, Daylight. The album’s 11 cover songs are an impeccable selection spanning folk traditionals, jazz standards and lesser known or rarely covered tracks from more contemporary artists like Nick Drake, Beck, Caetano Veloso and Fiona Apple. In Daylight establishes the voice of the studio through DeFiglia as producer, player, singer, arranger and mixing engineer. Fueled by his own studiousness and a global palette of sounds, DeFiglia’s eyes are fixed firmly in the direction of the song - free of ego - honoring the song's context, emphasizing its elements, and expanding faithfully on its best ideas. In this environment, the album’s star collaborators, including Scott & Seth Avett, Erin Rae and Mat Davidson (Twain) among others, enter as conduits of a well-articulated vision rather than needing to shine celebrity on the arrangements. One can only hope there is much more to come.
